I treated myself to a pedicure today while hubby & kid played in the mall play area. I know places in the mall tend to up their prices a bit, but hey, the thought occurred and I had the time. So, here’s the 411 on the place. Venetian Nails and Spa is the name of the place I went, located in Lynnhaven Mall (the side where the play area is). I went in the the owner I’d assume came up and said “Oh! You want your eyebrows done! They are so bushy” … erm, I’m a natural blonde, my eyebrows are far from bushy. “Bushy” is Brooke Shields to me. And plus, isn’t “bushy” IN right now? I dunno. So, right off the bat she annoyed me. I asked for a “Spa Pedi” (they have 3 available pedi’s; “regular,” “spa” for $23 and “ultimate spa” for $35. I asked for SPA and sat right down in my chair. I can’t complain about the job the guy did (thankfully the owner left me alone) because I was turning into mush. He wouldn’t talk to me though and all the people doing the jobs (with the exception of a very nice Hispanic lady) were all talking to eat other in (I’d assume) Chinese. That was an issue I had with the salon in Spain also (on base).
So, while I am sitting there another girl comes in and orders the “Spa” pedi also. She is taken by the owner to the chair next to me and finishes when I do! Meanwhile, I’ve been there around 15 minutes already. She did an awful job with her poor toes and cut them too short (the girls words, not mine – I chatted with her while our toes were drying later).
Then, as I was paying I was charged $40 even (I would assume the ULTIMATE Spa Pedi and the pink & white polish). Sigh. I paid and left. The moral of the story I guess is make sure you understand the person talking to you, completely specify what you want and bring your PDA or cell – since unless you get the nice lady, you won’t be talking to your pedi/manicurist.
I received some super neat stuff from a website called “Vat-19″ the other day (who, by the way, ship worldwide). I got a little bag of Insta snow (fake snow powder, just add water!), a box of color flame candles (the flames turn the color of the candle, it’s really neat) and the coolest thing; an ambient fireplace DVD!!
I didn’t end up using the snow yet because I didn’t set up any holiday displays this year (yeah, I’m sucha bah humbug). But next year I’d like to set up a little village, I’ve always wanted to do one.
The candles will be used for Xander’s birthday next month! They are sooooooo neat because the flames really change colors to match the candle wax color. I’ve never seen anything like that before. It will definetly be a big hit on his birthday cake!
The third item was the fireplace dvd. I had received one earlier and was happy to receive another one which promptly went as a Christmas gift to my parents. Dad has ALWAYS wanted one and since I loved mine so much I was happy to give him his wish. The DVD is so relaxing and looks great on our 36 inch television. We used it while we were in Jacksonville because we didn’t have a fireplace. Here in Virginia we do, but I don’t know how to set up a fire, so we might be using it again! The crackle of the fireplace is wonderful to relax to. Even if it is just a dvd fireplace. In the summer it’s nice, lol!
Check out Vat-19, seriously, they have some really neat stuff and they ship everywhere!
I’ve been neglecting this blog because I’ve been super busy with life, moving in and vacations (because of course we dragged our butts down to Florida for Christmas … 14 hour drive …). But, we’re home and we’ve actually unpacked a few more boxes.
I’ve been in a funk lately though. I’m so pissed that the Navy moved us away when they did. I wasn’t ready to move! Now I can piss and moan and complain but there isn’t a damn thing anyone (or I) can do, because home is REALLY where the Navy sends you. In this case, we moved 3 weeks before Christmas and a month and a half before our sons 3rd birthday. We made plans to go to Florida for Christmas, but since we had made plans with friends (ahem) here in Virginia we came home in order to spend New Year with them. Turns out, they made other plans and we’ve got none now. I’m so mad that we could’ve stayed in Florida with our family and real friends and rung in the New Year. But, we didn’t.
Our son should have been able to spend his 3rd birthday (the birthday where kids finally realize how cool birthdays are) with his friends. Now, we haven’t made any friends yet since we just got here in time for the holidays.
I’m so bitter and pissed. I hate it here and just want to go home. I have no clue where “home” is anymore though. Maybe I would just like to go “home” to Mom & Dads house and curl up in my old bed and go to sleep for a few weeks. Maybe that will make me feel better. Doubtful though.

Today Alan, his mom and I went to visit “Momma” Dee Mills. I’ve talked about her and what she does on this blog before. She’s an amazing woman and does so much for the guys & girls overseas.
It was such an honor meeting her today – I know Alan has been wanting to for awhile now (she takes good care of him while he’s deployed – always sending great care packages for him and his buddies). Momma Dee has been sending him care packages through the last 2 deployments and wanted to meet him also!
If you don’t remember – Momma Dee created “Lea’s Prayers and Postage” in honor of her fallen hero son, Sgt. Lea Miller. Sgt. Miller was killed in action April 28, 2006 while serving his country in Iraq.
Thanks for the warm welcome and the time spent! Bless you! Thanks for all you do!
Yes, that’s actually me – looking seriously odd. I was singing “I Love Rock and Roll” during hazing karaoke at the Mom’s Christmas Party that I went to a few days ago. I’m a new member of a Virginia Beach playgroup … so this was only the 2nd event I’d attended. I had a great time though – there were a lot of awesome ladies at the party. A good deal on the crazy side since they got up to sing. It was loads of fun! Great food and drink, cookies and karaoke. And best of all? NO KIDS! W00t!
Don’t get me wrong, I love my kid, but getting away to hang with the girls is always welcome!
I was happy to go to the party because it gave me a chance to get talking to the girls a little more then at the kids holiday party last week. A couple girls I thought were a little ‘stand off ish’ towards me (being that they didn’t know me I guess) were wonderful at the Mom’s party. Maybe it was because I was more pushy? lol … I like people, I like making friends – I can’t help being pushy. Not pushy like “be my friend? be my BEST friend” pushy. Just, “hi, I’m Christine” pushy. I’m not scared to introduce myself and get into a conversation. There are more then just military wives in this group – so it’s cool. I know there was at least one playgroup in Jacksonville that actually did not accept military wives into the group! I guess it was there prerogative, but sheesh!
Anyway, where was I? Oh, I’m making friends and I am a happy girl.
